Coupled Bose-Einstein condensate: Collapse for attractive interaction
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the collapse in a coupled Bose-Einstein condensate of two types of bosons 1 and 2 under the action of a trap using the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The system may undergo collapse when one, two, or three of the scattering lengths ai j for scattering of boson i with j, i , j51,2, are negative representing an attractive interaction. Depending on the parameters of the problem a single or both components of the condensate may experience collapse.

Stability and collapse of a coupled Bose-Einstein condensate
The dynamics of a coupled Bose-Einstein condensate involving trapped atoms in two quantum states is studied using the time-dependent GrossPitaevskii equation including an interaction which can transform atoms from one state to the other. We find interesting oscillation of the number of atoms in each of the states. For all repulsive interactions, stable condensates are formed. When some of the a...

We study the collisional and collapse dynamics of a twin Bose{Einstein con-densate with an attractive interatomic interaction. We show that the collision between two Bose{Einstein components with densities higher than the critical density for instability can rst lead to a collapse due to the attractive interatomic interaction followed by a cessation of collapse due to the mutual nonlinear inter...
متن کاملStability and collapse of a hybrid Bose-Einstein condensate of atoms and molecules
The dynamics of stability and collapse of a trapped atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) coupled to a molecular one is studied using the timedependent Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation including a nonlinear interaction term which can transform two atoms into a molecule and vice versa. We find interesting oscillation of the number of atoms and molecules for a BEC of fixed mass. This oscillation is...
متن کاملControlled collapse of a Bose-Einstein condensate.
The point of instability of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) due to attractive interactions was studied. Stable 85Rb BECs were created and then caused to collapse by slowly changing the atom-atom interaction from repulsive to attractive using a Feshbach resonance. At a critical value, an abrupt transition was observed in which atoms were ejected from the condensate. By measuring the onset of th...
متن کاملSplit instability of a vortex in an attractive Bose-Einstein condensate.
An attractive Bose-Einstein condensate with a vortex splits into two pieces via the quadrupole dynamical instability, which arises at a weaker strength of interaction than the monopole and the dipole instabilities. The split pieces subsequently unite to restore the original vortex or collapse.
